The MV Usuki
Lydia Mar Manila congratulates its principal, Mastermind Shipmanagement (MSM), on its brand new 43,000 dwt, MPP vessel—the MV Usuki.
Its engine is also methanol-ready, making it future-proof for evolving low-carbon fuel pathways. Moreover, we also congratulate the Filipino Seafarers who helped bring this ship to life.
More than just another ship in MSM’s growing fleet, the MV Usuki is also a source of Filipino Pride. Veteran Filipino Seafarers were among the shipbuilding team—Capt. Gerry Huang, C/E Vic Ario, ETO Allen Anyayahan, ETO Jaypee Gamis, Hull Supervisor Edward Martelino, and Paint Supervisor Nico Espedido.
Meanwhile, the ship’s command is also Filipino. Captain Wilson Dumael has been leading its maiden voyage, joined by Chief Engineer Cliff Suico, and a predominantly Pinoy crew.

A Floating School
In addition to being a merchant marine vessel, the MV Usuki is also a floating school and the home of MSM’s Cadet Training Program.
The first set of cadets includes the inaugural batch of MSM Scholars—Cadets Kyle Ajoc, Prince Cabrera, and John Patac. These students received a full scholarship from Mastermind Shipmanagement in 2023, to help them complete their studies at the Davao Merchant Marine Academy in the Philippines. The scholarship is open to promising students who are struggling financially but show potential. As of 2025, the scholarship is already supporting its third batch of students.

The Future of Filipino Seafaring
The MV Usuki reflects a bright future for Filipino Mariners: professionals who build the ships of tomorrow, seafarers who take on leadership roles, and educators who help shape the next generation of Filipino crew. As MV Usuki sails, it also carries with it the aspirations of many Filipino seafarers—those who built her, command her, and those who will train within her walls.

This vessel is also a testament to Mastermind Shipmanagement’s trust in Filipino talent. And as MSM’s partner in the Philippines, Lydia Mar Manila is proud to continue supporting world-class Filipino seafarers and developing future cadets. From the shipyard to open seas, we are honored to be part of MV Usuki’s story, and the bright future it charts for the Filipino maritime community.
